Did you know that women are very concerned about breast reconstruction options? This is a very important decision in their lives. They need to know the options. 7 out of 10 are not aware of their breast reconstruction options and less than 1/5 undergo mastectomy to have breast reconstruction.
There were 96,277 breast reconstructions in the U.S. in 2011.
Some women don’t have reconstruction because of lack of insurance.
The 1988 Women’s Health and Cancer Act requires health insurance to cover the cost of breast reconstruction following a mastectomy in 50 states.
Many cannot have reconstruction re-done or if someone has an error in their surgery, it will be re-done. I know of three cases in the past year.
