Prescription Mistakes

Know what goes into your mouth. I remember an elderly lady some years ago mixing up her pills and over dosing totally by accident. It resulted in her death. It can happen so easily with seniors.

Did you know that many pharmacies will put the pills right directly into your pill case by the days of the week? As people get older they do get forgetful. Forget that.  Younger people are being diagnosed with memory problems as well.

It use to be so easy to know what you were taking. Know days they have all these generic names for medications, and it drives you crazy when you go to the doctor and meet with the nurse. She goes through your drug regime. You have to remember what you are taking and what it is being used for. You feel like a pill factory.  I often do wonder if we need all those pills we take.

Some folks need to remember to wear a medical alert bracelet. I remember not wearing one and getting a shot in the wrong arm.

There are other people who need to carry an inject able epinephrine pen around for anaphylactic reactions.

Sometimes people are in the hospital and are giving doses of medication by pill or IV’s, and they are desensitized to the medication. The physician finds the medication is not working, and he or she changes the dose or even the medication. They have to be so watchful. Can you imagine the stress they are under? The decisions they have make are mind boggling to save the patients life.

If you are in a nursing home or care giving situation, the caregiver has to know about your allergies and reactions are to various medications.

What are drug allergies? It could be a rash, you could be having trouble breathing, speaking, and so much more.
