The Volunteer Attorney Program

The Volunteer Attorney Program has been around since 1981. It serves the counties of Aitkin, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Itasca, Kanabee, Lake, Pine, and St. Louis Countries.

Volunteer Attorneys privde assistance in the following areas of law:  family law, consumer credit, government benefits, probate, guardianship and other civil matters.

To be eligible you must of first applied to the free legal aid program in the Ordean Bldg.

You must not earn more than 125% of the federal poverty guidelines (FPG) and the case type must be one that the VAP or Volunteer Attorney Program can handle.  They look at your gross monthly income, household size and asset income.

This program does not handle criminal case, tort defense or free generating cases such as personal injury and worker’s compensation.
