There was an article in 2011 issue of The Healthy Moms about breast cancer and Polish women. I thought it was interesting.  In our family endrometrical cancer runs in the family. Estrogen play a major role. Well actually we came from a Polish Territory that later became part of Germany. Some women of Polish decent and have these genes: CyP19 A and AR. These variations increase their endrometrial risk.

Did you know that cabbage, sauerkraut, garlic, broccoli and other veggies helps to prevent cancer in Polish women? It is something to think about, if you don’t have thyroid issues.

There was a study done of Polish women who were screened for mutations in a gene called CHEK2. It was done by the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, Poland. It estimated that Polish women who carried this CHEK2 mutation had a 34 percent risk of developing breast cancer if their mother or sister had the disease. This study involved 7,500 Polish women who didn’t have BRCA 1 or 2. They found that 3% had this CHEK2 gene. This test is not ready for Polish women in the U.S. yet.

These women would be screened from BRACA 1 and 2 genes, if they have a family history of breast ovarian cancer.
